I’ve always been drawn to abstract art because there are no rules. No expectations of what it should look like. No right or wrong. It’s subjectively unique in how every person gets something different out of each piece. Something personal to them. I find that beautiful.
There are no limits when creating abstract art. Anything is possible. Ideas can come from anywhere and everywhere. (That would make a good name for a piece. See! Idea) And there isn’t only one place to start from. I may start with how I want the piece to look, or which colors I want to put together, or a name that I’ve been wanting to use. It’s rare that you’ll find me without my sketchbook and pen case. Something I truly love about art is it’s something I can take anywhere and do anytime. All I need is to pick up a pen, pencil, or marker, find a blank page, and then bring the two together. No page stays blank around me for very long.
I would still draw even if I knew no one would ever see it. The want, need, and passion for it have been there for almost as long as I can remember. Quite simply, I love it. It makes me happy. It makes time stop. I put a part of myself into every piece I make, no matter how big or small the page. There are no secrets between me and my sketchbook.
